Our Hiring Process

Stage 1

Online application

Your online application is split into two parts.

Part one: submit your CV and cover letter.

Take your time with the cover letter - it's your chance to tell us why you're genuinely interested in the role and joining CIL.

We know AI tools can be helpful for some tasks, but for your application, we're really looking to understand your independent thinking and motivations. Try to write in your own voice and reflect on what excites you about the role. The best cover letters give us a good sense of who you are and why this opportunity feels right for you.

Part two: take some online tests.

These will take about 45 minutes to complete, and assess your:
  • Numerical skills
  • Ability to learn new things
  • Situational judgement
  • Ways of working
Please make sure that you're in a quiet space for these assessments, and that you take your time.

What happens next...

Once we’ve reviewed your application, a member of the team will be in touch.
Stage 2

Round 1 interview

Your mentor
When you are invited to interview, you will be put in touch with a mentor. This is a current Analyst who has recently been through the same process as you. They can offer advice on what to expect ahead of each interview and answer any questions you have. This is not assessed - your mentor will be focused on supporting you and helping you to understand the recruitment process and what it's like to work at CIL.

Your mentor will be there to help you throughout the process - you can reach out to schedule further calls with them before each interview round.

The interview

This interview will last one hour, and includes a market sizing exercise and commercial questions. You'll also be asked about your CV and motivations for applying for a role with us.

Throughout this round, we will be assessing your commercial, analytical, and communication skills. You can prepare by looking up market sizing exercises and attempting to answer them yourself.
Stage 3

Round 2 interview

This hour-long interview features a business case study, where you’ll receive information about a company and the market it operates in. You’ll then be asked questions that explore your critical thinking, commercial awareness, and ability to use the text to draw conclusions.

Towards the end, we’ll also turn the focus to you — discussing your interests, motivations, and what excites you about a career with us.
Stage 4

Round 3 interview

This interview is held by two members of our senior team, and lasts about one hour. It is usually held on the same day as the Round 2 interview.

There will be a short business case study, as well as a conversation about your experience and motivations. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions in the interview, so we recommend coming with some prepared!
